RE:CREATE Psychiatry in collaboration with Playing ON present: Shifting Perspectives through Theatre
19th May – 18th June @ The Albany
A five-week workshop series exploring how a theatre-based process can help us find a common voice, create a narrative, and build a better understanding of the roles we play within mental health services. Open to all mental health professionals and those with lived experience.
Following a successful residency at The Dragon Café, RE:CREATE Psychiatry are delighted to present Playing ON at The Albany for the second stage of our collaborative project exploring how performance techniques can help us gain a vital, expanded, experiential understanding of the key issues that affect both service users and service providers in and out of the ward.
Open to all, the workshop series will run every Friday from 19th May to 9th June at The Albany Theatre from 6pm to 8.30pm. You are welcome to join us for one, two or all of the sessions.
The programme will conclude with a Theatrical Intensive on the weekend of the 17th and 18th June. On the afternoon of the 18th June, this common creative endeavour will result in a devised performance by service users and mental health professionals.
Join us as we marry professional theatre and socially engaged practice, and continue our study of how the Playing ON methodology translates from inpatient wards to community-led spaces. This collaborative project forms part of RE:CREATE Psychiatry’s creative engagement provision, which uses experiential learning to explore the impact traditionally fixed roles have on the wellbeing of both service users and mental health professionals.
